Obersturmbannfubrer (Lt. Col.) Skorzeny served with the Waffen SS during WW2. After action on the Eastern Front he became famous for leading a successful rescue mission to free the deposed Italian dictator Benito Mussolini from captivity on a mountain top in Italy. Skorzeny also led “Operation Greif” in which English – speaking German soldiers wearing American uniforms spread panic and confusion behind U.S. lines during the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944. Our K&C Club figure has him wearing Luftwaffe uniform as he appeared on the Mussolini rescue mission on September 12, 1943 He died in 1975.
